Monday 29th of September 2026, the LEGEM organized its very first public worhsop dedicated to a theme that’s at the heart of our democratic concerns : « The media and racism ».

Co-led by Clémentine Mariuzzo, independent journalist and researcher at the LEGEM and Alican Tayla, university-lecturer and researcher as well as director of the LEGEM, it took place within the premises of the ACORT (Civic Assembly of Natives from Turkey) – partner of the organization – during the 31st season of the 11th District’s Intercultural Gatherings.

Twenty-three people took part in this first workshop.

During two hours, the participants from different horizons and age, citizens, non-profit activists, students, journalists and researchers exchanged and debatted around several activities in groups.

They allowed a collective and inspiring reflexion to emerge around issues of neutrality within the journalism sector, independence in the media and new forms of racist biases and discriminations in the written press and the audovisual sphere.

The exchanges were enhanced by multiple data and medium shared with the participants.

A huge thank you to every person there who largely contributed in the succes of this workshop with their relevant interventions and their enthousiasm. This first edition has asserted our conviction of the importance and necessity to continue building bridges between thorough research and civic action to strenghthen the democratic debate.

Thank you to the ACORT for welcoming us and to the Ensemble, nous sommes le 10e collective for including the LEGEM in its Intercultural Gatherings.

Finally, thank you to Duygu Güner, researcher in sociology and member of the LEGEM, for her contribution to the conception of the workshop.

See you at the next workshop !
